Emergency Preparedness
In an Emergency
Basics
Basics
All Disasters
Remain Calm
Stay Informed: Listen to local emergency officials and/ or local news or radio for news on what's happening and await further instructions
Check for Injuries: In the case of a local disaster, if appropriate, give first aid and get help for those most severly injured
Events Near Home
Check for damage using flashlights only. Do not use combustible materials or turn on electrical switches.
Check for fire and gas leaks.
In the case of a gas leak, evacuate all from the building. If possible, open windows and turn off the gas valve.
Check on neighbors, especially the elderly, disabled, or infirmed.
Call family contact. Do not use phones unless necessary. This allows open lines for emergency workers to use.
