Responsibilities
The Fire Prevention Bureau has several functions. The following is a list of activities for which the Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible:
Enforcing Massachusetts General Law Chapter 148 and 527 CMR 1 (The Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Safety Code)
Review of fire alarm and sprinkler plans
Conducting inspections in conjunction with the Building Department
Issuing permits required by the fire code
Conducting 26F & 26F1/2 inspections with the sale or transfer of property
Investigating the origin and cause of fires in Watertown
Managing fire department details
Managing quarterly inspections
Managing oil burner inspections
Keeper of public records
