Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Reduced Fare Senior Pass
The MBTA issues a pass that entitles seniors (over 65) to a reduced fare on subways, buses, and commuter rails. The pass may be purchased in person at the MBTA Senior and Access Pass Office in Boston or online. Call 617-222-5976, 617-222-5854 (TTY), or 800-543-8287 for more information.
The MBTA RIDE
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) RIDE provides door-to-door transportation to eligible people who cannot use general public transportation because of a physical, cognitive or mental disability. Lift equipped vans are used to serve persons with disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs and scooters. The RIDE operates 365 days a year from 6 am to 1 am in sixty-two cities and towns. In order to use the RIDE you must complete and submit an application. Contact the MBTA Office for Transportation Access to download an application or call 617-222-5123.
Watertown Senior Shuttle
The Bus operates on a limited, appointment-only schedule, traveling to the Stop and Shop on Watertown Street, Marshalls, Market Basket, Roche Brothers, Hannaford, and other destinations. See the monthly newsletter for more details. We continue to monitor the service with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe-rider distancing policies. Masks must be worn. Please call us at 617-972-6490 for more information and to schedule your ride.
Supplemental Transportation for Watertown Seniors
This program is designed to provide readily accessible transportation assistance via taxi service for seniors in need of last-minute medical appointments, or emergency transportation to locations within the community, and is funded through the City and the Marshall Home Fund. Service is available as funding permits. Transportation by local taxi is arranged by calling the Senior Center at 617-972-6490.
Senior Parking Permits
For Watertown residents 65 and older, parking permits are available for up to two hours of free parking at meters in municipal lots only, not for street parking. Call the Senior Center to make an appointment for new permits; renewals can be processed over the phone at 617-972-6490.
